New skatepark could open shortly- mayor

Antigonish‘s mayor says the new community skatepark should be ready soon.

Laurie Boucher says they hoped to be ready by the mid-October- at the latest- but they’re a bit behind schedule.

After October’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Laurie Boucher said the park on West St. could be open the first week of November.

“We’ll probably have a soft- very soft- opening, and then wait for the spring for a big grand opening,” she said. “It will be useable (in 2019) for sure.”

Work on the project, which was announced in Aug. 2018, started in July 2019.

Boucher said a few finishing touches remain.

“All the landscaping won’t be finished around it,” she said. “We’re hoping to get it to a point that it’s going to be useable for (2019).”

Boucher said the roughly $700,000 project remains on budget.
