Team Canada’s women’s hockey team won the gold medal game, 3-2 over the United States at the Winter Games in Beijing.
Marie-Philip Poulin scored two goals, securing Canada’s fourth gold medal of the games.

The win is historic for hockey in Nova Scotia.
Halifax’s Jill Saulnier and Stellarton’s Blayre Turnbull became the first women’s hockey players from our province to win Olympic gold.
Troy Ryan of Spryfield won gold as a head coach, and the contingent from our province also featured Dr. Tina Atkinson of Shelburne and assistant coach Kori Cheverie of New Glasgow.

The gold is Canada’s fifth all time in women’s hockey.
Sarah Nurse opened the scoring, she led the tournament in points with 18, setting an Olympic record previously held by Hayley Wickenheiser.
