The Nova Scotia Health Authority says they’ve found a way to provide assisted dying services at Saint Martha’s Regional Hospital without violating their ’90s takeover agreement with the Sisters of Saint Martha.
VP Health Services and Chief Nurse Executive for NSHA Tim Guest says assisted dying services weren’t available at the site until August.
Guest tells The Hawk, in order to maintain their agreement with the Sisters, assisted dying services are located in an adjacent facility.
“We believe we’ve come up with a process that meets the needs of both. We’ve identified a space in the Antigonish Health and Wellness Centre,” he says. “The organisation has worked to try and make sure that we can support families and individuals to have the service in the place that they desire to.”
He says they had an obligation to add assisted dying services at Saint Martha’s Regional Hospital despite their agreement with the Sisters.
