It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Alexander “Sandy” Bruce McKenna, 87 on July 11,2026 at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston, N.S.
Sandy was born in Pictou, N.S. on June 4, 1939. He later moved to Whiteside where he was raised by his adoptive parents Minnie and Amable Boudreau.
As a young man, Sandy started working for Stora Forest Industries until his retirement. During that time, Sandy married the love of his life, Anne (Poirier), and together they raised a son, Randy, and a daughter, Lynn.
In his younger years, Sandy enjoyed camping, partying, playing cards, hunting and biking with his family and friends. In later years, he loved spending time with his companion, Corinne – listening to classic Country music, cheering on the Blue Jays, taking drives around Richmond County, and admiring the beautiful sunsets.
If you knew Sandy, you knew how much he loved desserts, especially Corinne’s fresh apple pies! In fact, just days before his passing he told her, with a smile on his face, “I LOVE YOUR APPLE PIES!”
Although he loved all these things, what truly changed his world was his three grandchildren – Ryan, Josh and Alexander.
Sandy was predeceased by his adoptive parents Minnie and Amable, his beloved wife, Anne and his brother Louie.
Sandy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his companion Corinne, son, Randy, daughter, Lynn (Russell), grandchildren Ryan, Josh, Alexander and his extended family.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at both Saint Martha’s and Strait Richmond Hospitals for the excellent care given to Sandy.
Sandy touched the lives of so many and formed lasting friendships wherever he went. His caring, kindness and gentle nature will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held on August 15, 2026 from 11am – 12:30pm @ D’Escousse Civic Improvement Hall in D’Escousse. A Family graveside service will follow @ 1pm at Saint Hyacinth Cemetery, with Fr. Duncan MacIsaac officiating
