BELYEA, Robert Alfred “Bob” – 86, Queensville, Inverness Co., Cape Breton passed away peacefully in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital on Sunday, July 26, 2026, after a brief illness, with family by his side. Born on April 13, 1940, in Saint John, NB, the oldest son to Raymond and Mary Belyea.
Bob graduated from Simonds High School in Saint John in 1957, from there he worked as a Draftsman at the Saint John Shipbuilding for 10 years before moving to Cape Breton to work on construction at the Point Tupper Heavy Water Plant. He then went on to summer school to become a teacher at Canso Vocational School from the opening of the school until his retirement.
He married the love of his life, Louise Van Wart on July 28, 1962. They lived an amazing life together in Queensville, where they raised their three children. Bob loved to fish and hunt, he passed that love down to his sons, Trent and Jon. He loved being in the woods and gardening with Louise and daughter, Wendy. He loved a good game of cards, reading and doing Sudokus. But nothing made Bob happier than spending time with his grandchildrenand great-granddaughter. Bobs sense of humour was one of the best parts of him.
He is survived by his son, Jon (Cathy), Queensville; daughter, Wendy (Jim), Port Hawkesbury; daughter-in-law, Shelly, Lower Sackville; brother, Bud (Donna), NB; his loving grandchildren, Justice, Kelsey, Emma, Shay, A.J., Courtney, Danielle, Robby and his little Missy, his great-granddaughter, Maria-Rose; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Raymond; his beloved wife, Louise; sisters, Shirley and Donna; son, Trent.
Graveside service will be on Friday, July 31 at 2 p.m. in Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Port Hawkesbury. Everyone is welcome to attend. The family would like to thank Strait Richmond Hospital, St. Martha’s ICU staff and the Palliative Care staff and the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home for the amazing care they gave Bob.
