We are devastated to announce the sudden passing of Leah Rochelle McNamara of Port Hawkesbury, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the young age of 48.
Leah is lovingly remembered by her brother, Gary McNamara (Judy), Kempt Road; brother, Mike McNamara, Sydney; niece, Dana Burke (Gage), Kempt Road; nephew, Matt McNamara (Alyssa), Lower River; great-nephews, Brody McNamara and Bowen Burke and great-nieces, Bradlee Burke and Ivie Mae McNamara. She was predeceased by her father, Noel McNamara; stepmother, Marilyn Groom-McNamara; mother, Mary MacDonald.
Leah loved the beach, a day at the beach was a day well spent. She found peace in the ocean air, collecting rocks to paint and driftwood to create art. Leah loved to express her creativity not only through crafting, but also through her wardrobe. She often wore bright orange, a hot pink or bold print.
Leah adored her two cats. Her cats were her babies and she loved them with her whole heart.
Leah recently decided to make a career change and went back to NSCC to study Social Services. Leah thrived in this program and earned grades we could have only hoped for in our high school days. She loved the course and her hard work showed in her high marks. Leah was excited to continue her education journey by taking courses at CBU in the fall. Leah found her passion and was proud of her accomplishments, as were all of us.
Leah was always there to lend a helping hand, family and friends were very important to her. Leah made friends easily and was always up for a good laugh and a fun time. Life threw Leah some curveballs, but she was always able to roll with it and come out on top. Through all life’s twists and turns, she had the support of her family to guide her.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 9 at 3 p.m. in Kempt Road Cemetery. Leah loved flowers and we welcome you to bring a flower to honour her. Memorial donations can be made in Leah’s memory to Dorothy’s Cat Sanctuary or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NS. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
