It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. On Friday, May 15th, 2026, at the Eastern Memorial Hospital Canso with her husband Tommy of 57 years by her side. Mom was born in Antigonish, March 10th, 1952, to the late Belmont and Edith (Roberts) Lumsden.
Mom worked at the Canso Fish Plant, nursing home in Hazel Hill, Canso Restaurant and Eastern Memorial Hospital before retiring. Mom loved being outside in the flower garden, completing word searches and loved being surrounded by family and friends.
Mom is survived by her two sons, Michael (Sherri), Fort McMurray, Robert (Dyan) Edmonton and her daughter Laura Lee (Brian), Truro, and her grandchildren, Tyler (Amy) Hanlon, Sarah (Nicholas) Nuttall, Rebecca Hanlon, Marcus Boudreau, Zachery (Nicole) Boudreau, Logan Hanlon and Adora Hanlon. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Thomas, Ryan and Leland; sister, Linda (John) Armsworthy, Big Island Merigomish, NS; brother: Bruce (Audrey) Lumsden, Melvern Square, NS; sisters-in-law, Louise and Lorraine & Brenda; and Many nieces and nephews.
Mom is predeceased by her parents, infant sister Winnifred, brothers Edison, Jerry Clyde and Belmont, sister-in-law Maxine.
The family would like to thank Dr. Chris Milburn and the staff at the Eastern Memorial Hospital. Thanks to the EHS and the Canso/Hazel Hill Fire Department for responding.
Visitation will be held 2-8 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 121 School St., Canso. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026 in Canso United Baptist Church, With Rev. David Wheeler officiating. Burial at a later date.
