Pair arrested in local fishing dispute in court for trial

A father and son charged in an apparent case of vigilante justice in Guysborough Co. are scheduled for trial today.

RCMP say the operator of one fishing boat deliberately rammed another boat in May 2018.

They say no one was hurt, but one boat was damaged.

Police say it stemmed from recent fishing licence changes in the area, even though no one involved was fishing illegally.

Eric Victor Pace, 66, from Marie Joseph faces one count of dangerous operation of a motor vessel; Richard Pace, 47, from Marie Joseph has been charged with uttering threats and mischief causing danger to life.

They entered not guilty pleas during an election-and-plea hearing in Antigonish Provincial Court in October; today, they’re back in court for trial.
