The Strait Pirates host the Miners in the opening game of the Sid Rowe Division final in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoffs.
The Pirates (29-2-1) finished the regular season in top spot in the division- and the entire league- with 59 points; the Miners (20-7-5) were second in the division, 14 points back.
Taylor Lambke, the team’s head coach, tells The Hawk their seven-game win against Antigonish in round one will be good experience moving forward in the playoffs.
“It was something we kind of talked about- if we could find a way to get through that stretch and come back and win the series, it’d be a huge momentum builder for us and a huge character test,” he says. “I thought we did a great job.”
The Miners beat Pictou Co. in five games in the first round to advance.
The Pirates swept the four-game season series against the Miners, with three of the four games decided by one goal.
Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 7:30 p.m.
The best-of-seven series moves to Membertou for game two Saturday night.
