Pirates try to stay alive in Sackville

The Strait Pirates will try to keep their season alive when they visit the Sackville Blazers in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoffs.

The Pirates led the best-of-seven, league final 2-1 after the first three games; the Blazers won the last two to take a 3-2 series lead, and put the Pirates on the brink of elimination in the process.

Taylor Lambke, the head coach of the Pirates, tells The Hawk they’ve been playing well, and they don’t need to change much.

“We’re playing the game we want to play, we’ve just got to find a way to score some goals, we’ve controlled the play in every game in the series- we’ve given up eight goals, and we’re down 3-2 in a series, which is kind of crazy,” he says. “We’ve just got to keep playing the way we’re playing, and just fight for our lives- be desperate, be hungry to score.”

Game time is 8 p.m.

A Blazers’ win gives them the league title, and sends them to the Don Johnson Cup; a Pirates’ win sends the series back to Port Hawkesbury for a seventh and deciding game Saturday night.
