Police cruiser hits man, slams into pole during Halifax pursuit

A 37-year-old man is facing charges after a police chase in Halifax ended in a crash Tuesday following a reported theft on Quinpool Road.

Halifax Regional Police say officers responded to a theft at the Superstore, where the suspect fled on a stolen bicycle. A short time later, two officers located the man near Nora Bernard Street and began a pursuit.

The police cruiser then struck the suspect before crashing into a power pole. The man and one officer were taken to hospital with injuries, while a second officer was treated at the scene by Emergency Health Services.

Police say the investigation is ongoing. The suspect is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date.
