Police say long weekend is time to close up cottage, prevent break-ins

RCMP say the Thanksgiving weekend is a good time to close up the cottage and prevent break-and-enters at seasonal properties.

They say those types of crimes are frequently crimes of opportunity, since cottages are often in isolated areas.

Police say a few tips include removing all valuables from your cottage, locking and securing all doors and windows, and making sure all windows are covered with curtains or blinds.

They say you should have an alarm system with a local contact if you don’t live nearby.
