Port Hood drowning victim identified

A woman who died as a result of a suspected drowning in Port Hood has been identified.

RCMP say they received a 911 call from the unsupervised day park beach at roughly 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

They say kayakers found a woman unresponsive in the water.

Police say members of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and Port Hood Volunteer Fire Department also responded.

Catherine Florence “Kay” Roach, 82, of Port Hastings was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP say they haven’t determined the official cause of death, but their investigation continues.
