The premier has committed to hand concerns about the Port Hastings rotary redesign to engineering staff.
Iain Rankin spoke to the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce virtually Friday.
Chamber members voiced doubts the project would fix congestion caused whenever the Canso Causeway opens.
Rankin told the group issues with the flow of traffic are what provincial engineers are trying to avoid.
“They have to look at safety first and foremost,” he said. “They wouldn’t want to make the flow any less than it is now.”
The premier said he’ll make sure local concerns about the rotary are taken into consideration.
Rankin asked chamber members to submit them in writing.
“We have to make sure that they’re considering all of this that you’ve just brought forward,” he said. “I’ll make sure that the Deputy of Transportation and Active Transit looks at that before they start the work.”
Rankin said the whole project is designed to improve traffic flow at the rotary.
