Premiers discuss return of U.S. alcohol to store shelves

Prime Minister Mark Carney is calling on provinces to lift their bans on U.S. alcohol sales after President Donald Trump paused a planned tariff on Canadian goods.

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston says premiers across the country are now working through the process of getting American products back on store shelves.

“It’s been an irritant, and it’s been something that has kind of really bothered the United States for so many reasons,” Houston tells reporters. “Now, whether Nova Scotian’s or whether Canadian’s will buy it when it gets back on the shelf, that’s a whole [different] discussion.”

Houston says Canadians are looking for certainty and stability as trade discussions with the United States continue. He says that remains the priority as governments determine the next steps in the Canada-U.S. trade relationship.
