Province will help Richmond Co. council with concerns

The warden of Richmond Co. says they are addressing concerns in the community with their provincial counterparts.

Brian Marchand says the Minister of Municipal Affairs sent an email to councilors after he heard from community members.

He says they had a meeting with municipal affairs last week about issues within council.

After last night’s council meeting, Marchand said the cost of a mediator will be covered by the province to deal with the issues.

“Municipal Affairs said they would pay for the mediator and they would pay to have some education on roles and responsibilities of council and CAO” he said. “I have no issue with that but the communications part which is an important component they weren’t sure what they would do with that so we are waiting to find out from them.”

Marchand said he hopes council can earn the trust and respect of the community again.

He said they won’t be able to please everyone.

“Well I hope we can earn the trust and respect of the community again before any decision that we make. (It) is going to be controversial either way, there’s going to be some people that are upset so we want to try to make sure all the information gets out.

He said to gain trust once again council will have to answer questions the best they can.

Marchand said any decision they make will be controversial.
