The 6th day of testimony adjourned Tuesday at the Desmond Fatality Inquiry in Guysborough.
Only one witness was called, the psychiatrist who saw Lionel Desmond two days before he killed his wife, daughter, mother, and himself in their Upper Big Tracadie home in January 2017.
Doctor Faisel Rahman told the inquiry he kept Desmond overnight for observation, and the next morning offered him the option to stay for another night, but he declined.
“Anybody who goes, I discharge, from our unit, I ask them ‘are you feeling safe to go home? You don’t have any thoughts of hurting yourself, hurting anybody else?’ and he said ‘no, I’m fine,'” he said. “He wanted to be discharged.”
Doctor Rahman said he couldn’t keep Desmond because he didn’t meet the requirements for Involuntary Admissions under the Mental Health Act.
