StFX Athletes of the week come from hockey and track.
X-Men hockey goaltender and Antigonish native Blade Mann-Dixon was named Male Athlete.
He backstopped the X-Men to three big wins
He had 22 saves in Tuesday’s 5-1 win over UPEI, followed up Friday with another 5-1 win over UPEI, where he stopped 29 and was the game’s third star.
Mann-Dixon capped off the weekend with 38 saves on Saturday, earning player of the game honours in a 3-2 win over U SPORTS No. 1 ranked UNB, improving his record to 7-2-0 on the season.
Blade is currently 3rd in the AUS in save percentage.
The Female Athlete is X-Women track & field runner Jane Hergett.
Hergett had two impressive races at the McGill Team Challenge meet in Montreal this weekend.
She placed fourth overall in the 600m sprint, out of 46 competitors with a time of 1:34.36.
In the 1000m race she came sixth among university runners.
Hergett is currently ranked in the top 10 in the country in the 1000m.
