Storm response went well- warden

Antigonish Co.‘s warden says he’s pleased with the response to Hurricane Dorian.

Owen McCarron says Nova Scotia Power reps did the best they could, given the severity of the storm.

McCarron says municipal workers did great as well.

“Our staff certainly went above and beyond to make sure the essential services in the county were maintained,” he says. “We provided comfort shelters in a few communities as well throughout the county.”

McCarron says the storm was a test of their response, and everything went very well.

He says they’re pleased, but there’s always room to improve for the next time.

“Things like sewer treatment plants- auxiliary power might help in situations like that, so those are some of the lessons learned,” he says. “We’ll take a chance to debrief and look at the aftermath of the storm, and figure out what areas we might be able to do a bit better.”

McCarron says communication was good during the storm.

He says he was able to touch base with senior municipal employees throughout the event, and they responded to residents’ questions quickly.
