The warden of Antigonish Co. says they should know more on plans for a dangerous intersection in the very near future.
Municipal councillors first brought up concerns involving the Beech Hill Rd./Trunk 4 intersection in Sept. 2017; it’s been the site of numerous crashes and near misses since it re-opened to four-way traffic in Oct. 2016.
Warden Owen McCarron says they expect to hear from provincial transportation officials shortly.
“They are looking at a couple of things, and they are hopefully going to be back to us before (Friday) with some interim plans,” he says. “As soon as they have that information, we’ll certainly pass it on.”
McCarron says municipal officials were concerned heading into the busy summer travel season, but it was quiet.
“I think there’s been a lot of discussion about it, and a lot of awareness,” he says. “People are being very mindful about the approaches to that intersection.”
McCarron says some have speculated a roundabout will be installed, but that would take a few years.
He says he’d like some interim safety measures in place if a roundabout is put in.
