Town councillors in Mulgrave have held the line on tax rates.
They passed their 2021-22 budget at their May 17 council meeting.
The town’s residential rate remains $1.23/$100 of assessment; the commercial rate stays at $4.52/$100 of assessment.
After June’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Ron Chisholm, the mayor of Mulgrave, told The Hawk they’re pleased to keep rates where they are.
“With COVID-19, nobody wants an extra burden by upping the taxes,” he said. “We tried our best to keep everything the same.”
The town’s overall operating budget is $1.7 million.
Chisholm said they faced an $8,000 increase to policing costs in the town.
“It’s substantial, really,” he said. “Our housing, our school and the police have all increased.”
Chisholm said they had to absorb all those increases without any additional funding from their provincial counterparts.
