The Antigonish Highland Games get underway this weekend. The age-old tradition is back for the 158th year.
The festivities start on Sunday with a special church service at St. Ninian’s Cathedral, and a concert at St. James United Church. The games themselves don’t start until next weekend with the Tir Nan Og kid’s event. It is a field event that introduces young gaels to athletic cultural activities.
The Scottish heavy events begin the following Saturday. Athletes from across North America will compete across famous events like the caber toss, tug-a-war, and weight-over-bar.
Throughout the week there will be dozens of exciting events to participate in. Pancake breakfasts, ceilidhs, a parade, and concerts are just some of the many things to look forward to.
