A young local entrepreneur is especially excited about the Cape Breton Pro Rodeo coming to Sydney in September.
Annah-Clare MacLean is just 14 years old, but she’s already the founder behind LEGIT Western Wear, a Cape Breton-based brand designed for people who live and breathe the western lifestyle. With the Cape Breton Island Pro Rodeo heading to Centre 200 this September, she’s getting ready to showcase her brand in a big way.

Annah-Clare launched LEGIT Western Wear in 2024 after noticing something missing: durable, authentic western clothing that riders could actually find locally and that could keep up with real barn life.
So she created it.
Blending her love of horses with a seriously strong entrepreneurial mindset, she built a brand focused on both function and style. Think gear that works in the barn but still looks sharp anywhere else.
She’s also started creating custom cowboy hats, giving riders and fans a chance to add their own personal western touch.
With the Cape Breton Island Pro Rodeo bringing competitors and fans from across Atlantic Canada, it’s shaping up to be a major moment for the local western scene.
For Annah-Clare, it’s personal. She says:
“A professional rodeo coming to Cape Breton is so exciting for our community,” she says. “As a new barrel racer myself, I can’t wait to watch the incredible riders and horses and I’m really looking forward to introducing my brand to new people!”

As rodeo weekend approaches, LEGIT Western Wear will be ready with apparel, accessories and custom pieces for anyone wanting to show up in true western style.
And if this is what Annah-Clare is doing at 14…it’s safe to say this is just the beginning!
