The mayor of the Town of Port Hawkesbury says voters re-electing all incumbents gives councillors a clear mandate.
Brenda Chisholm-Beaton was sworn in for her second term as mayor at November’s regular council meeting Tuesday night, the first since October’s municipal elections.
After the meeting, Chisholm-Beaton said waterfront development, housing, and doctor recruitment are still priorities.
“We’re really going to dig in right away, and we will be very assertive in our plan going forward for the next four years- there’ll be definitely no breaks (and) no rest,” she said. “We’re going to have a very busy four years- we need to implement some think-outside-the-box, innovative thinking, and look at solutions that will be both grassroots (as well as) efficient and effective.”
Chisholm-Beaton said a mix of new and old makes for a strong council.
One newcomer- Jason Aucoin- and three returning councillors- Blaine MacQuarrie, Hughie MacDougall and Mark MacIver- were also sworn in Tuesday.
She said there are seasoned councillors and an optimistic, driven new councillor at the table, which is a recipe for success.
“Add that together with our excellent staff, and we can’t have anything but a productive and wonderfully progressive four-year term.”
Chisholm-Beaton said their next meeting will be to build a four-year plan to address their priorities.
