Town of Port Hawkesbury Year in Review for 2022

The Town of Port Hawkesbury has released their year in review report.

Some of the highlights from 2022 include the approval of the accessibility plan and the completion of active transportation installations, including the MacQuarrie Extension Active Transporation Pathway and the replacement of the Boardwalk on Granville Street, they are both accessible for all ages and abilities something Mayor Brenda Chisholm Beaton says are accomplishments to celebrate.

One of the biggest priorities for the new year is improving access to housing in the town. “We are currently working with New Dawn Enterprises to take a deep dive into the housing needs.” says Mayor Chisholm Beaton. “Housing is needed all across the spectrum, we have combined our economic development which is another priority area with housing to create a new committee called Port Hawkesbury Development. This committee will promote The Town of Port Hawkesbury to get developers attention to see Port Hawkesbury as a place to invest in for housing projects.”

The Town is also working with a group called “Cape Breton South Recruiting for Health” in coloration with Richmond County in order to retain and attract healthcare workers to the region as the province deals with a shortage of healthcare workers.

More goals for 2023 include waterfront development, improving public transportation, and road repairs. Mayor Chisholm Beaton says their strategies are very people focused and they hope to grow the town in an inclusive and accessible way, and they look forward to seeing what will be accomplished in the new year. She would like to thank the town staff for their hard work.

The complete year in review report will be available to read on the town’s website: Town of Port Hawkesbury – Welcome To Port Hawkesbury
