Update on the 77 puppies under NS SPCA care

Earlier this month, 77 dogs were surrendered to the Nova Scotia SPCA from one property in Cape Breton.

The dogs and puppies are in need of urgent treatment and rehabilitation. Medical treatment and rehab costs are estimated to exceed $70,000.

The SPCA offered an update on the dogs yesterday.

“The dogs and pups are decompressing and starting to come out of their shells. They are beginning to feel more comfortable in their new surroundings and seeing new faces. We are very hopeful.”

After transporting the dogs throughout the province, they still did not have enough space to shelter and meet their rehabilitation needs. So, with the generous support of donations, they created an emergency offsite location.

They also said that some of the dogs have adjusted well and will be looking for forever homes to continue with their personalized socialization plans. If you have the experience and commitment to continue the rehabilitation process, they will be updating their adoption page with information soon.

There is still a long journey ahead. If you are able to, a donation towards their care would be very much appreciated.
You can make a donation here or you can text SPCA to 4-10-10 to donate $20.
