Upgrades coming to town hall

Town officials in Antigonish are moving forward with some upgrades to their town hall.

The $25,000 in funding is for repairs to council chambers and the mayor’s office.

After December’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Laurie Boucher, the mayor of the town, said upgrades are needed.

“Council chambers needs to be painted,” she said. “The chairs have to be replaced- there (are) a number of chairs that don’t work anymore, so people are sitting on all different levels.”

Boucher said the work in her office should have been done earlier.

She said it will increase efficiency.

“Some of the new electrical things that had to go in over the years have not been covered up,” she said. “Just to cover some of those up and make it more energy efficient- it does have two outside walls- would be great.”

Boucher said the work will be done during the winter.

She said she’s not sure how long it will take.
