Warden says environment approval for proposed Canso spaceport is great news

Guysborough‘s warden says he’s very pleased with the latest step toward a proposed commercial spaceport in Canso.

Officials with the provincial government granted environmental approval to Maritime Launch Services reps in early June.

After June’s regular municipal council meeting Wednesday afternoon, Vernon Pitts, the warden of the municipality, said company reps have told him shovels could be in the ground before the end of 2019.

“We’ll have to see exactly how things settle out coming on the end,” he said. “I fully expect you’re going to see some activity there over the summer (or) early fall months.”

Pitts said he’s been told there shouldn’t be any issues meeting the conditions attached to the project’s approval.
