Warden says improvements to two unpaved roads could happen soon

Antigonish Co.‘s warden says they’ve heard back from their provincial counterparts regarding a pair of unpaved roads in the municipality.

Councillors first brought up their concerns with the state of the Afton Rd. and Gorman Rd. in May.

After January’s regular municipal council meeting Monday night, Owen McCarron, the warden of Antigonish Co., said improvements should be on the way soon.

“We got a letter back from the (provincial transportation) minister on the Afton (Rd.) and Gorman Rd.,” he said. “He is sending out information to department staff to have a look (and) do traffic counts to see what possibilities are in terms of some upgrades.”

McCarron said he expects preliminary work to start once the weather improves in the spring.
