X-Men try to avoid elimination against UNB

The StFX men’s hockey team will try to stay alive in the AUS final when they host the UNB Varsity Reds in game two Wednesday night.

UNB won the opening game of the best-of-three series 5-1 in Fredericton Monday night.

The X-Men are facing elimination for the fifth time in these playoffs.

Brad Peddle, the team’s head coach, tells The Hawk they’re getting used to having their backs against the wall.

“They’re not nervous in games like this, and this is great as we head into not only (game two), but the national championship- you have to have a group that’s comfortable playing in these tight, one-goal-for-the-most-part elimination games,” he says. “That’s one thing this group has shown throughout the playoffs- they’re not afraid of those games.”

Puck drop at the Keating Centre in Antigonish is 7 p.m.

A StFX win forces a third and deciding game in Fredericton Friday night; both teams have already clinched their spots at the University Cup in Lethbridge, Alberta March 14-17.
