A man who appealed a sexual assault conviction in relation to an incident on campus at StFX has had that appeal dismissed.
Police charged James Stanton following a Nov. 2017 incident in his dorm room at the university; both he and the complainant were StFX students at the time.
Stanton stood trial, and a judge found him guilty.
He appealed the verdict on grounds the judge shouldn’t have found the Crown had met the burden of proof on the strength of the complainant’s evidence.
That appeal was heard in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Antigonish; it was dismissed in a written decision Thursday.
The decision was released Monday.
