Local sports preview (Tuesday)

The Antigonish Bulldogs are back on home ice in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoffs.

They host the Eskasoni Eagles in the third game of their best-of-seven, Sid Rowe Division semi-final.

The Bulldogs won the opening game in the first-round series 4-2 in Antigonish Friday; the Eagles evened things with a 7-4 win at home Saturday.

Puck drop at the Antigonish Arena is 7 p.m.

The winner will take a 2-1 series lead into Eskasoni for game four Thursday night.

 

The StFX women’s hockey team is in Halifax for the opening game of the AUS final against the Saint Mary’s Huskies.

The X-Women (22-5-1), who have won 15 straight games and 18 of the last 19 dating back to the regular season, finished tied with the Huskies (22-5-1) for top spot in the eight-team conference with 45 points; the teams split the four regular season games they played.

Both teams received first-round playoff byes; StFX swept UPEI in two games in the conference semi-finals, while Saint Mary’s swept UNB.

Game time is 7 p.m.

The winner will have a chance to sweep the best-of-three series- and advance to the U Sports championship in Charlottetown- when it moves to Antigonish for game two Thursday night.
