Gaelic College CEO says renovations started on former renewal centre

The chief executive officer of the Gaelic College says work on the former St. Joseph Convent is underway.

College officials took ownership of the former renewal centre in Mabou at the end of the November.

Rodney MacDonald, the Gaelic College’s CEO, tells The Hawk they’ll use the facility for new classrooms, meeting rooms and accommodations.

“We are looking forward to having more to say in the coming months and the different partnerships involved,” he says. “It’s going to be an exciting time for the western side of Cape Breton Island, for sure, when it comes to student activity in the coming years.”

MacDonald says their Mabou campus will still be part of the Gaelic College brand, but will have its own featured name.

He says their goal is to finish renovations done before the end of 2019, so they can hit the ground running in 2020.
