A prominent community member and local business leader has passed away.
John F. Green died unexpectedly at home at the age of 41.
He opened Port Hawkesbury-based Green’s Funeral Home in 1999; he started a one-year term as president of the Funeral Service Association of Canada in 2016.
Officials with the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce presented him with their 2019 Excellence in Business Award Wednesday.
Green, who was also well-known in political circles, ran provincially as the Tory candidate in Richmond in 2006 and 2009; he also ran for Port Hawkesbury town council in the 2012 municipal elections.
